Default How I would have ran this weekend

I mentioned in another thread that If Anet's goal for this weekend was to get Factions info to the people that weren't already buying it so that they can decide if they want it - Then Its pretty much a failure.

Not to say that the event wasn't fun or anything like that - Its just It really didn't meet many goals..

Firstly: I would have made it a Demo Key ONLY event.

This prevents the veteran players from totally controlling the event so all the people can get an equal taste of the Chapter 2 stuff. As it is now - If you farmed faction to unlock all the new skills and runes and stuff, and if you have all the skills from existing characters - Then your in control and it really isn't giving a good picture to the noobies. This would make only the faction you earned in the event mean anything.

This would also mean you don't get early unlocks from Chapter 2. Many a person are already buying the skills they like from the classes - which gives them no insentive to play the quests and pve stuff for the unlocks on Chapter 2 release. Keeping the unlocks post-weekend was a bad idea on Anet's part I think.

Secondly: I wouldn't have put everything I had for those classes in these event, and I had have only locked the runes, and top skills (like elites) for the classes.

This is a followup to part 1, and also a new idea. Firstly - since you'd only be using faction generated this weekend - It'd be hard to buy all the skills you like - so their all there except the runes and elites and such so you'd still have something to use faction on and feel like your unlocking something. This also means that people would be able to play out the classes and such as they like instead of being forced to play with horrible builds for hours before getting sutff like want. This would give new players more of a feel for how they can do stuff in Guild Wars - Instead of them just getting weak builds, no choice, and getting OWNED by anyone that had faction saved up.

My first note for this is I said it would be a taste of Chapter 2 - not a chance to fully get into the interworkings of the Assassin and Ritualist - so not every skill or surprise would be out of the bag. Tihs is one Anet did - keeping the new skills form the exsiting classes out.

and a bunch of people with only demo accounts who are top players wouldnt squash the newcomers anyway?

get real.

the only realistic way to protect the new people is to bar the entire chapter 1 player base from getting a look at it

which defeats the purpose of letting the loyal chapter 1 people get a look.

in case you missed the announcement this was for chapter 1 players plus anybody else to drag in for a look.

this was not meant primarily as a hool new pvp player event

Exactly, I highly doubt they revealed every skill for the new classes. Cuz some of the categories only had like 10 skills.

Didnt say they have - I even editted in a few seconds later how they dont give the existing class content.

Loviatar - I know experience is a key - but from talking to people that haven't much experience in GW - One of the main complaints is how much their limited compared to the others playing. NONE of these people have expressed a desire to now play Factions if they weren't already buying it.

for once i completely agree with you.

if i were not already dedicated to getting it this would have been it for me.

i think the PVE event first would have been much better but possibly it would have been much bigger.

hopefully the next one will be more fun.

3 hours event total time and thats it for me (done yesterday)

GAILE says they have even outdone presear in beauty so........

Very few people around in the Zaishen Challenge and Zaishen Elite lobbies. About 5 districts in the former and 2 in the latter. That's very poor exposure, imo.

Pretty sure Anet wanted far more players to get into this weekend event.

They need to do something different/better with the next one.

Personally I'm waiting for the new Ranger Pets. I've always wanted a 4-arsed space monkey (with a hat).
